12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1
Interview 1:
I choose to
interview mt roommate Trevor and his girlfriend, because they are students here
at the University of Florida, and go out to eat a lot in the surrounding area.
They said they do not like paper straws and would definitely consider going to
other business that offer better solutions. They did say they do not care as
much for when they are drinking sodas or water because they just don’t use a straw
but for stuff like milkshakes, they do care. They said they get their
information for restaurants to eat from google and yelp.
Interview 2:
I interviewed
my friend Ashley, because she is also a student here at the University of
Florida. She gets iced coffee everyday from Starbucks or Dunkin, and she said
that she feels she needs a straw for her drinks because she is used to it and
now it just feels right. She goes pretty much evenly between the two places and
occasionally other local place, but said if one offered a better solution then
she would definitely consider going there more often. She said she goes by word
of mouth when finding and trying new coffee places.
Interview 3:
I
interviewed one of the brothers in my business fraternity named Brianna. She is
also a student here at the University of Florida, and I chose her because she
gets boba tea multiple times a week. The said that the paper straws do not work
because they can’t even suck up the boba balls in the tea, and said she would
choose a place with better alternatives then paper straws. She said she goes
mostly by word of mouth or even just by walking by when finding new boba places
to go to.
Conclusion:
I found that
in the segment of college kids here at UF, many of them eat out a lot, and went
to places for coffee and tea frequently. This demographic would be a big
portion of potential customers, due to them going to restaurants and places
that will use my alternative straw products.
Hi Matthew,
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job finding people who use straws for different things like milkshakes and boba tea which is not exactly the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of straws. I was a little confused on whether you were going to directly sell your product to UF students or to small businesses. Overall, I think you did a great job with these interviews and developing your market segment and idea.
Dear Matthew,
ReplyDeleteI believe your interviews are thought out very well. The segment of college kids here at UF, many of them ate out a lot and went to places for coffee and tea frequently can definitely represent your segment. I thought the boba tea example was important since you need a thicker and stronger straw, and many paper straws are less durable.
