20A – Growing Your Social Capital

1. The first person I interviewed is my friend Tucker. Throughout high school he would buy things off of Alibaba and resale them for a profit. He did this with these lights up Frisbee launcher things where he would buy a thousand at a time for around fifty cents a piece and then sell them to tourists and children on Clearwater beach for a couple of dollars. He would sell out every week and continued to do this on days he wasn’t busy. He even expanded this by making a Clearwater Beach Instagram page and following a ton of people who ended up following him back, and selling items on an online store he made such as beach towels and blankets, which he got for cheap on Alibaba and resold for higher prices.   2. I am filling him in as the important supplier to my industry because I would likely be using Alibaba to buy my straws, because I found some for around a cent a piece on that website, and Tucker told me all the important information on how to shop on Alibaba and differen...

19A – Idea Napkin No. 2

1. I feel that my talents lie within my work ethic. Ever since I was a younger child, I have had a strong work ethic and enjoy staying busy. Along with this, I also enjoy finding creative ways to be more productive with work. I feel that everything can always be improved, and am constantly looking for these improvements. This connects with my business idea, because I saw the problem with plastic and paper straws, and thought that an improvement would be greatly needed. My aspiration in life is to one day own my own business, and feel like this business idea is a good step in the right direction. If this business were to grow it could cover more then just Gainesville. I am from Clearwater, so being at the beach, many local restaurants care about being environmentally conscious, and surrounding cities such as St. Pete and Tampa feel the same and would provide a big market. 2. I am offering alternative products to plastic straws, which are bad for the environment, without having to rev...

17A Elevator Pitch No. 2

Image
https://youtu.be/mangJLzJtRQ I only had one comment on my last elevator pitch, but I was surprised to see that it was very positive and that they enjoyed it. I thought my first one was not that good, so it was nice to see the support. I tried to be more confident and dynamic and avoid stumbling on the new pitch. The feedback helped to push me to try to do better and not say um so much.

18A – Create a Customer Avatar

Image
My prototypical customer would be anyone in Gainesville. Since this is a college town, I picture them to be a UF student who eats out a lot. For my customer I picture my sister because she dresses very hippie and always lectures me on not using plastic straws. This segment is the segment I would most benefit from because they would be the ones choosing restaurants with better alternatives to plastic straws, and ones that work better than paper ones. My customer would actually be the restaurants in Gainesville, that would be purchasing from me as a distributer, but I like to focus on their customers, because if I can show the need and business generated from these customers than the restaurants would want to buy from me. This customer would be a college student that enjoys socializing with their friends by going out to eat multiple times a week. They would like to post on snapchat pictures of their food so it would be important to make the straws ascetically pleasing. My cu...

15 Figuring out Buyer Behavior Part 2

1. I interviewed three people in the college student segment, being students here at the University of Florida. 2. Speaking to college kids, I figured that price would be the biggest factor, and that some may not be willing to pay the few cents extra for better alternatives to plastic and paper straws. The more I talked to them, the more I realized that it did not matter as much, and that quality was a major factor. Style also played a factor to many of the girls I interviewed, with some saying they like the aesthetic idea of how a bamboo straw would look. Price did play a factor with one of the people I interviewed when he originally thought it would cost a lot more, but when I told him that my business idea of being a distributer, it would greatly reduce the price and when bought in bulk only cost a few cents more. 3. For my segment I focused on college students. My business idea would actually be selling to local restaurants not people directly, but I feel that it is important ...

16A –What’s Your Secret Sauce?

Image
1. I think the first thing that makes me have human capital is that I like to socialize and can read people very easily in order to tailor the conversation towards them. The second way that I think I have unique human capital is that I always try to think of creative solutions to problems. I believe that there is always a more efficient way to do thinks, and am constantly seeking these better alternatives. The third way that I think I have unique human capital is that I get very board when I am sitting around doing nothing. This means I am always trying to find work to do, and gave me a good work ethic, for when I am at work and my coworkers are sitting around, my bosses are usually impressed that I go out of my way to find thing to be productive with. The fourth way that I have human capital is that I always am looking out for other people, and want to help anyone in need. This can be from simple things such as listening to someone rant when they need it, to going out of my way to he...
